The 10 minute diy camera strap

Meet my early birthday present to myself:

Isn’t it dreamy? A glorious new bridge camera that will (hopefully) help me take kick-arsch photos for this humble blog & my continuing Confessions of a Refashionista series. The only negative I have yet to discover about this groovy piece of technology is the insanely boring strap…so I transformed it lickety-split with one of my favourite refashioning ingredients:

Purty awesome, eh?

Here’s how to make your own under 10 minutes…

Grab your camera strap & a vintage necktie (of course!)

*make sure the thinnest part of the tie is a bit wider than the camera strap

after adjusting it to fit comfortably around your neck, measure the length of your camera strap & chop off the same amount from the skinny end of the tie

attach one end of the strap to one side of the camera

attach a safety-pin to the other end of the strap

feed the safety-pin through the finished end of the tie

continue pushing the pin & strap through the tie until you reach the end attached to the camera

once the pinned end is through the entire tie, remove the safety pin and attach the remaining end of the strap to the other side of the camera. Bust out a needle & coordinating thread, fold under the raw edge of the tie & sew it firmly in place. Stitch & secure the other end of the tie and…

you’re done!

For added funkiness I stitched a small scrap of leftover tie around the lens cap strap as well.
