Our Coolest Culinary Creation…
April 2, 2012Remember our plan to create a krazy kewl kid kitchen for the munchkin’s first birthday?
We actually pulled it off – for under €25!
Here’s the basics to make your own:
We started with a Rast table, Bekväm spice shelf, Sätta knobs, an old dog bowl for the sink & various schnicky-schnacky we already had. After measuring where we wanted the kitchen-back & shelf to be we zipped out to the local diy shop, chose some smooth, sturdy plywood & had it cut to size. A final quick visit to Ikea to get plastic Bygel S-hooks & containers, Panna coasters (for burners) & an Olskär tap.
Measure & cut the sink & tap holes & attach the middle shelf. *to make the final construction easier, pre-drill all of the screw holes as well. As you’re attaching (& then removing) all of your basic parts it also allows you to get a better idea of the finished product & make any changes before painting – we ended up back at the diy store to get some thin wood trim to attach the stove knobs to the front of the kitchen.
Paint everything. We used some leftover lilac (countertop & shelves) & chalkboard paint (backsplash & sides) we had on hand.
Once dry, put it all together…
We made a justtherightsize oven door out of some upcycled mdf board & plastic packaging and attached a small underthesink curtain to hide away the pots n’ pans…
…added the rest of the kitchen gear, schnicky-schnacky, chalked on a colourful menu and presented it to the culinary critic herself:
…it’s a hit! There’s not much cooking going on yet, but the funky vintage pots n’ pans from daddy’s Oma make wonderful sounds when crashed together…or tossed on the floor…or banged on the sink…

That is so cool! I’ve been itching to make one of these ever since I joined pinterest. Love the purple!
