Traditional German Baked Apples for Christmas

Ahhh…Weihnachten! The dude has his own fondly remembered childhood Christmas sweets. Once he was old enough he had the honour of lighting the Adventskranz every Sunday, then onto “helping” Oma make the Bratapfeln (baked apples).

Here’s how it’s done:

You’ll need: an apple per person, 1tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 2 – 3 tbsp butter margarine, 1 tbsp honey, your favourite chopped nuts & a handful of raisins.

chop off the top of your apples…

scoop out the apple core. *a serrated grapefruit spoon works the best.

mix your butter margarine, spices, honey, nuts & raisins together

fill your apples with the nutty mixture

pop the top back onto the apple & crown it with the last bits of the nut mixture

bake at 180 celsius/gasmark 4/350 fahrenheit for 15 – 2o minutes, until the apples are bubbly & your house smells like Christmas

serve hot with a cold glass of lactose free milk or eggnog (or white wine) Yumdiferous!
