Open Faced Apple Pie Recipe

You know when you have a craving for something but don’t realize you haven’t enough ingredients until you’re almost done making it?

That’s exactly how my Open Face Apple Pie recipe was born!

If you’d like a top on your pie make sure you have enough flour before you start making it! (to make a top crust use the same recipe as below, roll the dough out on wax paper, cut into strips &  lay them criss cross on top of your pie & sprinkle with cinnamon)

First: The Super Easy Pie Crust

2 cups of (gluten free all purpose flour; a pinch of salt; 1/2 to 2/3  cup of oil; (dairy free) milk to make 1 full cup (added to the oil). Mix everything together in your pie plate (or ceramic dish) then press the dough out & up the sides of the pie plate.  Finished!

Onto the Apple Filling:

4 – 6 Apples ; 1/2 cup brown sugar; 1/2 cup white sugar; 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon; 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg; 1/4 teaspoon ginger; 1 tablespoon vinegar  Peel & cut apples into small wedges.  Add  sugars, spices & vinegar to apple wedges. Put evenly into pie crust. Bake at 400F (200 celsius or gasmark 5)  for 30 – 40 minutes – until crust is golden brown.

Delicious even without a top!
